Thoughts from the Board...
Seven years ago a group of people came together with the idea of sharing sustainable practices of growing food to create edible foodscapes for a more resilient community. This was the beginning of PPI. As a non-profit, our board has come up with ways to develop a permaculture demonstration site, offer classes, workshops and events to share information that might not be shared by traditional agricultural means. We love to share ideas to encourage people transitioning from a traditional garden to a garden using permaculture principles for more abundance of fruits & vegetables, diversity of plants and ease of care and at the same time using less natural resources. Another way we share ideas is through children with our PermaSprouts group. Children gather monthly for nature exploration, games, crafts, and working with plants, based on bringing sustainable natural principles of permaculture to ages 5 through 13. We also have sponsored an annual Seed Extravaganza at the end of January for exchanging local seeds we all have harvested. Three large projects you can see at PPI’s demonstration site are a moveable, RHT Greenhouse to extend the growing season, a many layered Food Forest planted in 2017, and a terraced crater garden with a pond created in 2013. Each year we add something new… so come attend one of our classes, tours, or events. We are happy to share with you what we are learning to improve your growing situation as we are working on ours."
Paradise Permaculture Institute is a group of people, a place, and a vision, focused on empowering our community and beyond with the knowledge to grow nutrient-dense food in a cold climate using sustainable permaculture design methods. We are a non-profit organization of educators, herbalists, and growers with a 5.7-acre demonstration property in Livingston, Montana where we provide hands-on learning opportunities for adults and children through classes, tours, and volunteer engagement. On our demo site, we observe and use the patterns of Nature to build healthy soil and incorporate biodiversity in a 150-tree and shrub food forest with edible understory, an all-season rolling high tunnel greenhouse, raised beds for vegetables and herbs, hügelkultur, a pond and wildlife habitat, and non-cultivated areas with edible “weeds” for foraging and other beneficial plants. With the addition of the rolling high tunnel, we are able to provide locally grown produce to stores, restaurants, and community partners such as the Livingston Food Resource Center. We envision PPI as a positive agent of change in creating awareness and sharing our knowledge of sustainable, natural ways everyone can grow healthful food in abundant, resilient gardens, landscapes, and small farms.
Paradise Permaculture is a non-profit organization whose goal is to educate individuals about permaculture practices. We do this by offering classes about permaculture education and design and by educating about local flora.
We feel this empowers individuals and gives them the confidence to have a landscape that heals the Earth, people and communities.
