Use rainwater from your gutter to create a beautiful garden using native plants.

Instructor Mona Lewis will be joined by guest Heather Muldoon from Heather’s Garden Service and Flower Farm toward the end of the workshop who will talk about Native plants and answer questions.

We will discover the ways rain gardens counteract environmental problems (the unnatural runoff patterns and filter impurities from the soil etc…) and:

  • Discuss native plant selection for our region from small trees to ground covers
  • Do a percolation test and design the basin to drain water within 24 hours
  • Actually construct a small RG feed by a house gutter.

We will send you home with a native plant seedling and plant list!

Rain gardens conserve water, reduce water pooling and even flooding.

See how easy it is to use rainwater from your gutter to create a beautiful garden using native plants. Rain gardens are misunderstood! These aren’t soggy areas. They allow water to seep back into the ground within 24 hours, help with rebuild the soil with deep rooted plants and catch water that would normally run off to direct it downward to the water table. RGs help to hold water in the soil during dry periods.
